NEW Zoo Looks at the Big Picture with Altru

Like many organizations and businesses, the NEW Zoo (Northeastern Wisconsin Zoo) faces a changing economy, increased sensitivity to environmental conditions, the need to provide a stable work environment and retain good employees, all while providing products and services of value to its customers. The NEW Zoo is among a group of only seven of the 218 Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) accredited zoos and aquariums in the country that does not receive local or regional public tax support for its annual budget. Aside from the core mission of providing a natural adventure that promotes recreation, education, and conservation through encounters with live animals, economic sustainability has become a major reason to apply sustainable practices to its operations.

Challenge

The NEW Zoo had multiple software applications that kept data in silos and inhibited the zoo from gathering a complete view of its constituents.

The zoo will also be adding two new parks to its operations and wanted a way to be able to incorporate the new functions and programs into the Zoo’s system.

The NEW Zoo is only one of seven zoos in the country that is self-supported. It does not receive any tax support and has to be as efficient as possible in order to sustain its operations.

The NEW Zoo has tripled in size and needed a single system that would grow with the organization, enable the zoo to be more efficient, and provide more value to its visitors and staff.

Solution

The NEW Zoo selected Altru by Blackbaud. Altru provides a complete 360 degree view of the organization, data, and its constituents.

Altru provides unified functionality for memberships, fundraising, ticketing, marketing, merchandising, programs, events, and more.

Results

With Altru, the NEW Zoo will be able to gather insight throughout the day to enable the zoo to make a deeper impact with its constituents, become more efficient, and provide better customer service.

The data available using Altru will allow the zoo to make more educated decisions because they have a full view of their organization.

The 360 degree view delivered by Altru will enable the Zoo to provide a more personal experience to its constituents.

The ability to do this begins with understanding their visitors. Altru will give the zoo the data it needs to understand its visitors, members and their behaviors.
